Job Purpose

Management of all direct tax matters of Novartis in UK. Responsibility for local direct tax advisory, governance, transfer pricing and compliance. Coordination of direct tax strategy with headquarters. Local roll-out of global initiatives incl. M&A. Engagement on local tax policy matters. Functional management of employment tax matters, including dealing with HMRC on audits and disclosures.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, propose and implement tax planning opportunities in order to optimise effective corporate tax rate
• Provide day-to-day tax advisory in relation to corporation tax and employment tax for business units and headquarters
• Support headquarters in tax planning and structuring/restructuring projects, including performing tax due dili-gence on M&A projects
• Keep Group Tax updated on relevant tax developments in UK. Assess consequences for Novartis and discuss necessary actions with Group Tax
• Coordinate and align all direct tax matters with the respective stakeholders at local level (Country CFO, Country Executive Committee, business unit finance, HR, etc.) and global level (e.g. Group Tax, Group Treasury, Funds Flow, Global Mobility etc.)
• Lead the bilaterial UK-Swiss APA negotiations, with the support of Group Tax
• Proactively review intercompany relationships, supporting headquarters with setting the transfer price and im-plementation
• Monitor effective corporate tax rate and profitability of local affiliates, propose transfer pricing adjustments and other measures, as appropriate
• Manage transfer price study projects performed in legal entities and ensure that documentation is updated on regular basis in cooperation with local business units, Group Tax and external providers
• Manage the tax compliance process and the relationship with service providers
• Review and sign-off quarterly tax provisions, and discuss issues with headquarters and external auditors
• Review and sign-off tax disclosures in UK statutory accounts
• Perform periodical health checks in relation to tax compliance, design remedy actions and implement
• Manage tax audits and informal correspondence by tax authorities, primarily in relation to corporation tax and employment tax matters, leading the negotiations and following up on action plans

Minimum requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

University degree in Tax, Legal, Finance or Economics
Additional qualification in a Tax or Finance related area (Tax Expertise, Tax Lawyer, CTA)
English - Fluent
Experience in big 4 firm (or equivalent), leaving as Manager/Senior Manager, and additionally experience as in-house tax manager
