Job Summary:

The National Sales Manager is responsible for planning, implementing and controlling both strategic and tactical business plans, whilst taking an enthusiastic lead role in establishing and accelerating the future growth of Alcon’s surgical portfolio. A driven and motivational individual, with a high degree of ethical leadership, the associate will be comfortable in liaising and influencing Key Opinion Leaders and other senior level stakeholders, whilst leading the surgical sales organisation to deliver growth in sales and market share. The role also ensures that marketing materials and promotional activities are co-developed with Marketing, aligned and implemented in compliance with local regulations. Commercially astute, the associate will furthermore thrive in a challenging, demanding customer environment and through motivational creative thinking and drive, and establish a team mind-set that seeks success, continuous improvement and positive change.


Key Responsibilities:

-Responsible for the management of a sales leadership team of 6 reports;
-Formulate and recommend to the Business Unit Head, sales and marketing approaches and plans and procedures that will secure maximum profitable sales volumes for the UK Surgical sales teams. -Responsibilities include monitoring sales and expenses for the area, setting Sales Targets, contributing to developing effective reward systems for sales staff, providing on and off the job coaching and counselling to enhance knowledge and skills, departmental budgets and monitoring performance, motivating the team, planning the use of resources in medium and long-term in order to achieve sales targets.
-Continually appraise the effectiveness of such policies, plans and procedures and make any recommendations necessary to improve these.
-Compile and prepare sales statistics and market information, analyse the information and submit recommendations to the Business Unit Head for final assessment and decision-making.
-Ensure the Business Unit Head is fully informed on the conditions of business and market through regular reporting.
-Work with the Surgical Marketing Team to ensure all field force marketing needs are met.
-Establish and keep in close contact with Alcon marketing staff in regard to business strategy, product knowledge and technical questions.
-All financial matters such as donations, proposed expenditures and product pricing policies must be agreed with the Business Unit Head.
-Provide for optimum utilisation and continual development of personnel under his/her responsibility
-Responsible for the appointment, promotion and guidance of personnel within his/her responsibility (including performance management of as appropriate).
-Responsible for providing additional focus on key accounts as the situation dictates and as directed by the Business Unit Head.
-Within the limits of the policies and procedures of Alcon to develop and to recommend to the Business Unit Head: Pricing of tenders taking into consideration market intelligence information; Plans for product and product line revision; New product introductions and product launches;
Recommend promotion and advertising programs;
-Alcon participation in any congress/conferences.
-Any other duties or projects as requested by the Line Manager commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility for this role, for which the associate has the necessary experience and/or training.

Minimum requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

-University degree qualification or equivalent in a related field
-Sound background and experience in life sciences or business - desired
-Holder of a current full driving license
-Fluency in English (verbal and written), Any other European language would be an asset
-Proven sales experience in a dynamic sales environment;
-Commercial awareness/business acumen of the medical device market and/or pharmaceutical industry;
-Operational Sales/Key Account experience;
-Practical experience of customer and channel management, ideally with brand management / marketing experience;
-Knowledge and experience of industry environment and strategy;
-Experience of successfully leading, coaching and motivating a sales team;
-Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage sales team members;
-Proven commercial acumen;
-Detailed understanding of the ABHI code and compliance;
-Proven ability to execute commercial deliverables;
-Collaborative leader; Proven ability to hire, develop, lead and motivate;
-Experienced working well within a matrix environment;
-Experience working within a blue chip organisation (eye care or medtech industry ideal)
