Our client is at the forefront of shaping the future of medicine by developing completely new & proprietary protein therapeutics with their ground-breaking platform. Their aim is to establish their technology in-line with the growing demand for the next generation of bio-therapeutics, surpassing monoclonal antibody therapeutics.

Theyre looking for a unique & driven protein Scientist to express and characterise their technology through phage display, as well as identify, develop & engineer leads for pre-clinical studies.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Clone, express, purify and characterise proteins for binding, stability & characterisation studies across a range of expression platforms.
- Clone, express, purify and characterise recombinant antigen proteins for phage screens & ELISA or cell based assays through a range of platforms and completely characterise them using a range of analytical methods.
- Establish and maintain cell lines for protein production.
- Engineer protein constructs with serum half-life extension technologies & design, clone, express & characterise the proteins that are produced.
- Develop SOPs and protocols.
- Carry out assays using HPLC to characterise protein batches.
- Carry out accelerated stability studies on in house proteins and characterise changes that may occur.
- Establish formulation studies for increasing stability of the proteins produced
- Carry out R&D projects to improve their protein platform for therapeutic development such as improving the biophysical properties of the scaffold

- Mammalian cell culture - culturing and maintaining cell lines, transfections for protein production. Large scale protein production experience would be an advantage
- Practical knowledge of the AKTA purification platform, Unicorn software and using conventional chromatography resins e.g. ion exchange
- Developing HPLC based assays for protein characterisation
- Excellent knowledge of a range of methodologies to characterise proteins (e.g. SPR, ELISA, Western blot)
- A good understanding of protein engineering and protein biophysics to investigate structure/functional relationships would be an advantage.
