Job Summary:

Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) is a Swiss non-profit foundation whose mission is to reduce the burden of malaria in disease-endemic countries by discovering, developing and delivering new, effective and affordable antimalarial drugs.

Requirements:

Working with drug discovery/development partners in academia and industry, as well as with country-based delivery partners and national ministries of health/ malaria control programmes, MMV’s focus extends from the identification of new potential treatments for malaria through to clinical development, regulatory approval, and delivery-for-impact in malaria endemic countries.  Since its founding in 1999, MMV and its partners have developed and brought forward seven new malaria treatments and over 1.5 million lives are estimated to have been saved by MMV co-developed drugs.

We are currently seeking a Director, Market Research to join our Access and Product Management (APM) team.  The successful candidate will lead MMV’s market research and market intelligence activities. A primary focus will be systematically capturing and integrating multiple sources of product sales, distribution and usage data to analyze the public health impact of the MMV product portfolio globally and in key malaria markets.  In addition, the Director, Market Research will provide bespoke research focused on policy/practitioner knowledge-attitudes-practices (KAPs) studies as well as product design requirements. 

The Director, Market Research will:

  • Develop, refine and maintain the integrated data warehouse to track country-level registration and deliveries of malaria medicines across all malaria endemic countries
  • Support APM product managers in developing robust market forecasts for existing and future antimalarial products
  • Maintain an updated “market monitor” dashboard, including updated information on changes in national policy adoption and in national/international sources of financing for malaria drug procurement in key malaria markets
  • In collaboration with MMV’s Business Development (BD) and relevant APM team members, identify and manage outsourced service providers for KAPs studies and product acceptability testing
  • Interface with key MMV partners, such as the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership, African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), and UNITAID’s ACT Forecasting Project, to validate the integrity and alignment of malaria drug impact information reported by those partners
  • Provide analytic support as required for MMV’s engagement with disease-impact modelling partners
  • Provide market-based input into target product profile development and refinement

Education & experience:

  • Master’s degree in Business Management / Marketing / Economics or related disciplines
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience as market research manager or director in the pharmaceutical industry and/or global health arena, creating and managing market intelligence particularly for products targeted at emerging markets
  • Proven experience in conducting primary research and assembling competitive intelligence
  • Track record developing and maintaining data systems to support market analytic functions
  • Specialized training in quantitative research methods

Technical skills required:

  • Fluency in English and ideally French, both in oral and written communications
  • Mastery of market research methods and techniques
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Understanding of drug development and registration process

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to different audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness
  • Willingness to travel to malaria-endemic countries (30%)
