Our client is a leader in liquid biopsy. Their novel platform unlocks essential genomic information from a simple blood test to transform the care of cancer patients. Their technology is based on pioneering research from the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge and backed by multiple high calibre publications. Their lead product, is commercially available and provides molecular insights that enable clinicians to make more informed treatment decisions for NSCLC patients. Our client is actively partnering with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on this product and their wider platform, which is applicable to a range of cancer types. They have a CLIA laboratory in Research Triangle Park, NC and laboratories in Cambridge, UK.

Bioinformatics Scientist - algorithm and assay development

The R&D Computational Biology group are looking to recruit a highly motivated, creative and logical bioinformatician to develop the next wave of methods to detect and monitor ctDNA. This role involves optimising and streamlining their novel analysis pipeline while also working with the assay development team to build novel methods and contribute to the design and creation of new products. This position offers the exciting opportunity to work at the frontier of cancer diagnostics while seeing the entire product development pipeline from concept, clinical validation, to commercial product.

This role will involve the analysis of NGS cancer genomics data, biomarker development, innovative algorithm design and optimisation of the client's technology.
Applicants will have prior experience in the field of bioinformatics and a good understanding of NGS analysis, for example a MSc or PhD degree in a relevant field and/or industry experience.

There is flexibility for the exact profile and experience of the applicant, provided that they can demonstrate qualities in the general area of computational biology and motivation to join a rapidly growing company in the field of cancer genomics.

Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of novel methodologies and algorithms for the analysis of ctDNA.
- Analyze, summarize and interpret NGS data sets using existing and customized approaches.
- Develop production ready, regulatory compliant code in partnership with the software development team.
- Support the rollout, optimisation and improve scalability of the client's analysis pipelines.

Education/Qualifications:
- PhD in the field of computational biology/bioinformatics/applied statistics, or significant experience in that space.

Requirements:
Experience with next generation sequence data analysis (Essential).
Experience in novel algorithm development, data mining and machine learning (Essential).
Scientific programming experience, using either R or Python (Essential).
Experience with cancer genomics data (Desired).
Prior experience with work in a regulated environment, in particular for software and quality assurance, such as ISO 13485, EN 62304, ISO 15189, or other (Desired).
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Candidates will be expected to be creative, capable of working independently within a dynamic team-oriented environment, and have excellent organisational and time management skills.
