Job Summary:

Our client is developing an antibody mimetic platform to meet the growing demand for the next generation of affinity reagents and biotherapeutics.

Requirements:

General Purpose and Scope
Our client is developing an antibody mimetic platform to meet the growing demand for the next generation of affinity reagents and biotherapeutics that will compete with monoclonal antibodies and other antibody mimetics in key applications. This technology is a novel protein scaffold based on the Cystatin A protein fold. The client has a strong IP position, has generated numerous novel binders with high affinity from nave phage display and has demonstrated acceptable drug-like properties of the technology in recent pK and efficacy studies. Key benefits of the technology are its small size, ease of formatting, high expression yields (even of large multimeric structures) and stability.

The Company is working towards the development of a pipeline of novel candidates in immuno-oncology and for technology development. The clients activities for the exploitation of the technology in research and diagnostics applications are based at their head office in West Yorkshire.

They require 2 highly motivated Assay Development Scientists who have had previous experience of assay development using antibodies, antibody fragments or non-antibody scaffold technologies in either the CRO or biotech sector. The roles will be to setup and develop a range of in vitro assays (such as ELISA, cell-binding assays etc.) to support Affimer characterisation and the validation of our technology in industry-standard assays.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop and validate assays including ELISA, LFD assays, Agglutination assays, cell binding and cell-based activity assays.
Perform routine cell and biochemical techniques, cell-based assays, and cell line analysis.
Present work/data internally and write scientific reports.
Maintaining a current and accurate laboratory record (lab notebook) of all activities.

Education/Experience/Skills

Essential:
o BSc/MSc/PhD in cell or molecular biology.
o A minimum of 2 years industrial laboratory experience of working with and developing assays using antibodies, fragments and/or non-antibody scaffold technologies.
o Being able to demonstrate a strong ability to develop target binding (e.g. ELISA, LFD, Agglutination) and phenotypic based assays (phosphorylation, cell proliferation etc.) using a range of techniques (e.g. Western blot, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy and IHC).
o Previous experience of molecular biology or small-scale protein expression and purification would be an advantage.
o Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
o The ability to work efficiently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
o The ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, professionalism, care, accuracy and reliability.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o A bold and innovative nature and a desire to be fully involved in driving the growth of the business.

You will need to hold current eligibility to work in the UK, our client does not offer Visa sponsorship.

Can you see yourself being part of a company that celebrates diversity and believes that better thinking and decisions come from wider experience? If the answer is yes and you have a desire to be an integral part of a dynamic team, we would be keen to hear from you. In the first instance, please send your CV to Matthew Walsh: matt@scientificprofessionals.com . We endeavour to come back to you within 24 hours of CV submission.
