How vehicle telematic systems could make sales representatives more efficient in terms of planning, reducing driving time, speed, fuel usgae, mileage and ahost of other benefits? Reduce operating costs, increase productivity, improve customer service and monitor health and safety of your employees.

The medical reprsentative has faced many challenges in order to get in front of the right medical professional as frequently as the ABPI allows but how efficient is the execution of the planning, the routes taken and the speeds reached?

For many years now the transport and logistics industry has embraced telematics or vehicle tracking in order to improve fleet efficiencies and to reduce operating costs. Could the deployment of telematics in representatives cars do the same thing in medical sales?

Increased revenue through better utilisation and increased productivity is common in transport, so why not in medical sales? Compliance with speed limits, driving time and stop time supports employers under the duty of care act. It also allows for a greener fleet by taking the shortest routes, less mileage and less fuel usage.

A box is installed behind the dashboard and communicates via GPRS satellite with a computer. Vehicle positions are updated every minute and the exact location of the vehicle can be viewed at all times.

In the case of a breakdown you know exactly where the vehicle is to assist the driver. Stolen vehicles can be located quickly and recovered intact. Security alerts can be set up to warn the driver if the vehicle has been started or driven out of a security zone. Engines can be immobilised by sending a text to the tracking unit.

Systems that include satellite navigation units can have appointments sent directly to the unit for ease of navigation. Units can also navigate around traffic hot spots to ensure representatives make that vital appointment. They also operate as hands free mobile phone units reducing driver risk of using the phone when not hands free.

Surgeries, clinics and hospital locations can be stored in the system. All the reports will show what time the car was at which location and for how long. Searches can be performed on a location to see which representatives called on the surgery last. Great for monitoring coverage and frequency in real time.

Finally telematic systems help with compliance with health and safety rules and duty of care responsibilities. The corporate manslaughter act was revised in 2008 and its highly likely that most companies do not comply with the regulations.
