What does a Medical Education Specialist (MES)do?

Typically, a Medical Education Specialist:

  • Reports, and receives instructions from, the Medical Affairs Director (MAD);
  • Works closely with the Medical Information Specialist (MIS), or Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in the preparation of press releases and public information materials;
  • Gives feedbacks and comments on the promotional and educational materials being drafted by the Brand Managers, MIS or MSL;
  • Conducts training on medical education needed by some staff of the Medical and/or Sales and Marketing Department(s) ;
  • Represents the company in scientific fora and other gatherings wherein medical education is the central theme; and
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned to him by the MAD.

  • Graduate of life sciences, such as medicine, nursing, physical therapy, psychology, pharmacy, biology, zoology, and medical technology;
  • Preferably with some units in courses related to marketing, or business; and with teaching experience(s);
  • Has worked in a pharmaceutical company, or related field, for at least 3 years as Medical Education Specialist, Medical Information Specialist, or Medical Science Liaison.

A Medical Education Specialist, after at least 5 years, might progress to a Brand Manager, or Clinical Data Manager.
