PharmiWeb Solutions – online publisher and e-business solutions provider to the pharmaceutical sector – recently announced the results of its inaugural Annual e:HR Europe Awards. This prestigious award is given in recognition of the best e-business initiative relating to human resources in the pharmaceutical sector. This includes innovative use of web-based recruitment and selection, intranet-based solutions for training and development, or other novel e-business applications in the Human Resources environment. The winning entry demonstrates technology leadership, return on investment, and how effective e-business deployment can help bring about positive organizational change. PharmiWeb Solutions received some excellent nominations, and after much deliberation, a winner and two runners up were chosen. In third place were Eli Lilly. Lilly were applauded for a key feature of their recruitment strategy; the use of their website and its links with their intranet job board. Lilly was also highly effective in promoting its web based recruitment channels through offline media, for example by promoting URLs that link directly to specific job types. Additionally, their PR was successful in selling the features of their company to the broader market. Candidates were impressed by the speed of the response to their web-based applications and reported these responses to be very courteous. Further to these successes, Lilly have managed to maintain a low cost per hire throughout the year.

Second place was awarded to Pfizer, who have made excellent use of their website, in particular the vacancy placement scheme. They have adopted a highly pro-active strategy, constructing the scheme based on their needs for the coming year. In conjunction with this Pfizer makes extensive use of banner advertising on and elsewhere to successfully direct potential candidates towards relevant vacancies. The cost per hire at Pfizer was particularly impressive, as Pfizer have managed major reductions in all areas of performance making them a real employer of choice in the Pharma sector.

In first place, overall winner of the e:HR Awards is Roche. The vacancies posted on the Roche website synchronise with external sites, and online recruitment integrates in to its implementation of Taleo, a talent management solution in use by Roche all over the world. Offline advertising by Roche ties in well with paid search and banner advertising, and a constant monitoring of media spend ensures cost effective advertising, and reveals and excellent cost per hire. Candidates once again rated the courtesy and speed of responses very highly, and recruitment agencies also acclaimed a no-nonsense approach and good turn around. Roche is a superb example of the benefits that an e-Business approach in HR can bring.
