BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Waismann Method® Now Provides Medically Supervised Alcohol Detox
The Waismann Method® is proud to announce the opening of their medically supervised alcohol detoxification program. Alcohol-dependent patients can now enter the Waismann Method® to safely detox from alcohol without co-morbid opioid addiction.
The The Waismann Method Waismann Method® has become Southern California's premier medically supervised opioid detox program, delivering care for thousands of patients over the last couple of decades. While the addiction specialists at the Waismann Method® are widely known for their expertise in opioid detox, many of their patients also have comorbid alcohol abuse problems. Many of the same detoxification principles that are used to treat people dependent on opioids can be applied to people dependent on alcohol. "[Alcohol detox] was a natural extension of our work with opioid-dependent patients," says Clare Waismann, Founder of the Waismann Method®.
Alcohol-dependent individuals often need substantial doses of benzodiazepines in the early stages of withdrawal, for example, to prevent alcohol-withdrawal seizures and delirium tremens (better known as DTs). Delirium tremens typically begins 48 to 96 hours after the patient's last drink and lasts for up to five days. The hallmarks of DTs are disorientation, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, elevated body temperature, extreme agitation, sweating, and hallucinations. A separate condition called alcoholic hallucinosis is separate from the hallucinations that occur during delirium tremens and can develop within 12 to 24 hours of the patient's last drink.
"We strongly believe that most acute alcohol detox should be managed in the hospital by experienced physicians so that appropriate medical resources are immediately available," says Waismann.
Patients who enter the detoxification program are followed at a JCAHO-accredited hospital supervised by Waismann Method® medical director, Michael H. Lowenstein, MD. Dr. Lowenstein is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pain Medicine and has over 20 years of experience in Addiction Medicine. "The providers in our program have the knowledge and experience that comes from years of treating people with both opioid and alcohol addiction," states Dr. Lowenstein, "patients do not need to have problems with opioids to tap into our expertise on alcohol dependence treatment."
Patients who enter the Waismann Method® program are first admitted to an accredited, full-service hospital so they can be closely followed during the riskier stages of alcohol detox. Once patients successfully detox from alcohol, they transition to the Domus Retreat aftercare program. This program offers one-on-one psychotherapy sessions, individualized treatment programs, recovery therapies and round the clock client care. The Domus Retreat offers the amenities of a luxury resort to ease the transition from alcohol addiction to sustained health. "Patients first go through detox to halt the effects of alcohol abuse on the body, and then spend time at the retreat to rebuild their physical, mental, and emotional strength," says Waismann.
