CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Sunshine Coast Health Centre, a leading directory of government drug rehabilitation and alcohol treatment programs in Canada from Vancouver to Toronto, is proud to announce an alert on new research on alcohol withdrawal symptoms and the need for better physician training.
"Detox and withdrawal from a substance such as alcohol is more than difficult for a patient; it is physically and mentally agonizing," explained Casey Jordan, Chief Marketing Officer. "Physicians are always searching for new techniques to help a patient recover more comfortably. Our announcement is a short but important summary of an USA study that also included one Canadian hospital, that is St. Paul's Hospital "

AN ALERT ON NEW RESEARCH ON ALCOHOL WITHDRAWAL AND PHYSICIAN TRAINING
Here is background on the release. A new study out of Canada, published in August in the Journal of the American Medical Association called for new training for emergency and family doctors to better help those with alcohol withdrawal symptoms. The study urged the use of a questionnaire called the Prediction of Alcohol Withdrawal Severity Scale. In their research 530 studies involving 71, 000 patients were looked at, with St Paul's Hospital in Vancouver being the only hospital in Canada to use the questionnaire.
While CDR focuses primarily on client-facing information, this study was important enough to make it to the blog. The alert to the blog helps to increase awareness among the treatment community of this important research. Alcoholism can obviously take a toll on a body and can be painful to recover from. Withdrawal symptoms can include seizures, headaches, confusion and anxiety. An ER doctor or family physician may struggle to assist a patient suffering from withdrawals. Learning about current treatments and medicines could be important. For these reasons, CDR deemed it important to issue an alert to the healthcare community.
