Health Alliance Plan and ProgenyHealth Partnership Recognized for Achievements in Neonatal Care Coordination
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., Oct. 8, 2018
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., Oct. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Association of Health Plans recognized Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based, nonprofit health plan that provides health coverage to individuals, companies and organizations, with a 2018 Pinnacle Award at a ceremony held on September 18th in Lansing, Michigan. HAP's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Care (NICU) Management Program won in the Clinical Service Improvement - Commercial category for excellence in managing the healthcare needs of premature and medically complex babies and their families.
In launching the program in 2016, HAP partnered with ProgenyHealth, the leader in evidence-based care management for this specialized newborn population. The two companies worked together to "connect the dots" between families, NICUs, and the health plan to improve the medical outcomes of these vulnerable infants. ProgenyHealth focused on improving these health outcomes by providing comprehensive hospital and at-home care management from birth to each child's first birthday. Since implementing the program, HAP has seen a decrease in NICU readmissions of 60 percent – an important indicator of quality of care.
Commenting on the award, Dr. Michael Genord, Chief Medical Officer of HAP, states that "Our medical management team worked closely with the experts at ProgenyHealth to deploy this integrated and very effective program. Their singular focus on NICU babies and their families was crucial to the program's success, and especially vital in building a collaborative relationship with our providers. We're very pleased with the outcomes of this initiative and the role it plays in our ongoing efforts to help members most at risk of developing serious chronic conditions."
Ellie Stang, MD, ProgenyHealth's Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer, adds that, "We've been delivering evidence-based care management solutions for premature and medically complex newborns for over 15 years. It's the only thing that we do. And that focus enables us to deliver an integrated platform, process, and team that is truly purpose-built. We're proud of the strong working relationship we've forged with HAP in serving their NICU and congratulate them on receiving the Pinnacle Award for this important achievement."
