Managing Diabetes with the Mediterranean Diet and KAMUT® Khorasan Wheat

Results of this study indicated that despite ongoing traditional medicinal therapies with all participants, a positive impact of consuming KAMUT® khorasan wheat products was observed on blood insulin, glucose, and insulin resistance. In addition, there was a significant decrease in risk factors of T2DM patient vascular complications such as total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, inflammation indicating cytokines, and a significant increase of antioxidant effects.

The Mediterranean diet is based in the consumption of olive oil, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and whole grains, as well as limited dairy products, fish in abundance and red meat in moderation. Based on this study, incorporating KAMUT® wheat into a regular-diet can provide beneficial effects for people with type 2 diabetes.
