Noted Expert on Emotion to Present Anorexia Nervosa as a Passion at 2019 iaedp™ Symposium
PEKIN, Ill., Nov. 28, 2018
PEKIN, Ill., Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Louis Charland, PhD, Professor at the University of Western Ontario and noted expert on emotion and first-time keynote speaker at the 2019 iaedp™ Symposium, will present "Anorexia Nervosa as a Passion," featuring the ubiquitous role that passion plays among those suffering with Anorexia Nervosa. Dr. Charland will show that while there are good reasons why passion has disappeared from the vocabulary of science, there also are good reasons to reconsider its utility in a number of scientific domains.
The iaedp™ Symposium, scheduled for February 7 – 10 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California, will offer seven keynote speakers, including Dr. Charland, who will showcase their latest research on the treatment of eating disorders.
During his presentation, Dr. Charland will show that when properly understood, passion provides a novel and promising perspective on both the nature of Anorexia Nervosa and current therapies for the condition. He also will address that appreciating the unique role of passion with regard to Anorexia Nervosa does not mean that current theories and therapies have to be abandoned, and he will reveal that for those who treat Anorexia Nervosa will have to distinguish passion from emotions, feelings, and moods and accept that passions and emotions especially are different.
A professor in the Departments of Philosophy and Psychiatry and the School of Health Studies at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Charland's areas of specialization are the history and philosophy of emotion, and the history and philosophy of psychiatry.
Additionally, Dr. Charland has worked extensively in the health care sector with various teaching and consultant positions in hospitals, government, and clinical trials research.
Dr. Charland's keynote presentation is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. For more information, visit iaedp.com.
