Dadi Announces Launch With At-Home Fertility Test and Sperm Storage Kit Making Male Reproductive Health More Accessible
NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Dadi, the men's health company that's reinventing the fertility industry, today announces its company launch, offering an approachable option for sperm storage and fertility testing. Dadi's at-home fertility test and sperm storage kit, which is FDA-licensed in all 50 states, gives men a low-cost, long-term option for storing young, healthy sperm. By simplifying male reproductive health and making it more accessible, Dadi offers men and families the information and resources they need to make educated decisions about their futures.
The company also announced just under $2 million in funding from Third Kind Ventures and firstminute capital, among other angel investors. Resources will be used to continue making advancements in male fertility research and sperm solutions in addition to growing Dadi's team of medical experts, which is currently led by Chief Medical Advisor Michael Eisenberg, MD of Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dadi's patented temperature-controlled at-home fertility test and sperm collection kit each come with a specialized cup, which allows for accuracy and real-time updates throughout the process. To ensure secure end to end shipping and delivery, the cup is designed with a unique preservative that protects the customer's deposit for up to 48 hours and throughout the entire overnight shipping process to Dadi's state-of-the-art cryogenic laboratory — New England Cryogenic Center (NECC). Deposits, which are supervised by a staff of highly trained cryogenic and laboratory professionals, are then analyzed and cryopreserved in a liquid nitrogen tank at -321°F, a temperature which suspends all metabolic processes.
Once the process is complete, customers receive a personalized fertility report stating the volume, count and concentration of the sperm in the deposit. The report also includes a microscopic video of the customer's actual sperm. Each customer's information is highly confidential, including the fertility report.
Dadi co-founders Tom Smith, Mackey Saturday and Gordon von Steiner were inspired by the belief that all men who might want to start a family in the future should have the ability to store their young healthy sperm today. Today, one in six couples will face issues with infertility and society continues to put the burden on women. However, of all known infertility cases, approximately 40–50% are due to "male factor" infertility and as many as 2% of all men will exhibit suboptimal sperm parameters.
"It wasn't until I heard first-hand stories from friends seeking family planning options that I began to dig deeper into fertility clinics and the sperm storage industry and realized that over the past three decades it has remained largely unchanged. If we don't address the topic, the process will continue to be inconvenient, expensive, and outdated, and fertility rates will only get worse," says Co-Founder and CEO, Tom Smith, "By turning this processing into something that is easily accessible and affordable, Dadi is allowing men to be active in their fertility when they want, where they want, and how they want."
Tommy Stadlen, LP and Venture Partner at firstminute capital said, "The stats on falling sperm counts are both alarming and under-discussed. It's refreshing to see a technology company with such a clear and important social purpose. By addressing the silent decline in male fertility, Dadi has an opportunity to change lives and build a globally significant company. Tom possesses the vision and persistence required to change how men think about reproduction and transform the antiquated sperm storage industry."
To date, Dadi has raised just under $2 million in funding. Dadi kits are available online at dadikit.com for $9.99/month or a $99.99/annual subscription.
