“My first six months in medical communications” – views from Immy, an emotive graduate recruit, Claire
In September 2018, Immy joined emotive through the graduate recruitment scheme after completing her Masters in Pharmacy at the University of Reading. Six months into her role, we asked Immy to tell us about her experience so far.
What do you like most about your role at emotive?
“I really enjoy the variety of the work. I’m getting to learn about different therapy areas and their treatments, as well as getting to be creative. And, of course, the people!”
What has been the most rewarding thing you’ve done since joining emotive?
“For me, it has been working as a team to bring ideas to life across a number of projects, such as an animation we completed for a symposium. It’s really rewarding seeing all of our hard work pay off and recieving positive comments from the client.”
What’s been the most fun you’ve had since joining emotive?
“The Christmas party was such fun. I really enjoyed getting involved in the preparation and planning – it was amazing to create such a fantastic vintage fairground in our own offices.”
Is there one thing that has surprised you about the world of med comms or agency life?
“I didn’t realise the full range of project types I would be working on. So far, I have already worked on six events, a website, a branding project, and a patient case app. I’ve also been able to get involved in the social club and internal work. This work is varied and completely different to client projects, so it’s been a great experience.”
Do you have any advice or comments to make to those who might want to get into medical communications?
“Medical communications would suit someone who has a keen eye for detail, is good with both people and communicating, and is confident about sharing opinions. A role in a medical communications agency is fast-paced, varied and fun. You will get to be creative whilst learning new skills, such as how to run an event or create a website.”
Our annual graduate recruitment scheme begins with a rotation around departments within the agency, culminating in a role in the Client Services or Medical teams. Look out for our Graduate Recruitment Day in 2019.
