Diaverum expands its Spanish network with new operations in Andalusia
Diaverum has been awarded a retender and expansion contract to deliver outpatient haemodialysis services in the province of Jaén, located in Andalusia in southern Spain, for the next five years.
The new contract will allow the company to strengthen its presence in Jaén - where it already operates one clinic and will now add two new one - and further consolidate its long-standing presence across Andalusia, where it has been delivering renal care for more than 40 years.
Diaverum opened its first clinic in Torremolinos (Málaga) - the birthplace of Diaverum’s d.HOLIDAY programme, launched in 1978 and today a global hallmark of the organisation - and has since built a strong track record of growth and partnership with the Andalusian Health Service and reference hospitals. Today, it operates 10 clinics in Málaga, Seville, Huelva, Jaén and Granada, including the Diaverum Jaén dialysis centre, which has been serving patients for 30 years. Under the new contract, the company will deliver outpatient haemodialysis services to more than 300 patients in the province, whose reference hospital is Jaén University Hospital. Patients in Jaén will also benefit from Diaverum’s proprietary Care Delivery Model, which ensures standardised, patient-centred treatment with real-time clinical oversight across its Spanish network. In addition, the national Patient Care Coordination (PCC) programme will promote continuity of care and foster multidisciplinary collaboration - further enhancing outcomes for people living with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
To achieve this, the company will renovate the existing Diaverum Jaén dialysis centre and build two new clinics, which are already under development and expected to be operational by January 2026. With this new contract, and another recently awarded in Córdoba, Diaverum will reach a total of 16 centres in Andalusia, treating more than 1,500 patients.
Dr Shaira Martínez, Medical Director of Diaverum Spain, said: “The opening of two new centres in Jaén allows us to bring to more patients a comprehensive care programme based on clinical excellence, human support throughout the entire treatment process, and technological innovation, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.”
Teresa Martínez, Deputy Country Manager and Business Development Director of Diaverum Spain, commented: “This new award reflects our experience and leadership in the region, as well as a perfect opportunity to continue bringing our multidisciplinary and personalised care model to more patients in Andalusia.”
José María Ordóñez, VP LATAM and Country Manager of Diaverum Spain, affirmed: “This award not only strengthens our position as a national and Andalusia benchmark and leader in outpatient dialysis but also reflects our vision of sustainable, patient-centred growth. It reinforces our commitment to growing responsibly, generating value for the public healthcare system and ensuring first-class care for all patients in the provinces and regions where we operate.”
Rafael Romanini, CEO of Diaverum, concluded: “Spain is one of our most important markets, and this new expansion in Jaén underlines our long-term commitment to providing best-in-class renal care to patients worldwide. By investing in new, modern facilities and expanding our network, we are not only strengthening our leadership in Spain but also advancing Diaverum’s mission of delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in every community we serve.”
At national level, this development increases Diaverum’s footprint to 53 clinics across Spain, serving nearly 5,000 patients through a dedicated team of more than 1,300 healthcare professionals. This steady growth reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and the continuous improvement of care for people living with CKD.
CKD affects around 15% of Spain’s adult population. As demand rises, Spain’s public healthcare system collaborates with expert providers such as Diaverum through long-term tenders, ensuring equitable access to high-quality renal care while fostering sustainability and innovation.
