Biodegradable, IPA wipes offer alternative to single-use plastics

Adhesives expert Intertronics has released its Endurawipe™ Biodegradable 70/30 IPA Wipes, a new industrial cleaning wipe made from 100 per cent eucalyptus-derived viscose that breaks down within 12 weeks of use. The Endurawipe™ removes light oils, residues, and fingerprints from plastic, metal, and composites surfaces within bonding, electronics, optics, precision engineering, medical, and cleanroom applications.

The Endurawipe provides laboratories, engineers, and manufacturers with a plant-based alternative to synthetic cleaning wipes, helping to reduce solvent use and avoid microplastic pollution after disposal. Its standing pouch contains 200 wipes, uses 60-80 per cent less plastic than traditional tubs/buckets, and dispenses through a resealable cap to prevent wipes from drying out.

IPA wipes are familiar cleaning aids — most engineering environments don’t need a revolution in their performance or application. However, avoiding single-use plastics without having to alter workflows for new equipment represents an effective way to lower environmental impact.

“The viscose in Endurawipes is regenerated from cellulose fibres, which is sourced from eucalyptus wood,” said Ben Swanson, Joint Managing Director at Intertronics. “Renewability was a focus for this product: many eucalyptus species reach harvest maturity in seven to ten years and yield higher quantities of usable cellulose per hectare than slower-growing species.”

“Environmental impact obviously concerns disposal too. The Endurawipe breaks down in 12 weeks, whether in a soil, marine, landfill or water environment,” concluded Swanson.
