Catalyst Fracture System Wins Medical Device Engineering Breakthrough Designation in 2026 MedTech Breakthrough Awards Program

Prestigious International Annual Awards Program Recognizes the Most Innovative Digital Health and Medical Technology Solutions Worldwide

NAPLES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Catalyst OrthoScience Inc. (“Catalyst”), a private medical technology company redefining shoulder arthroplasty through simplified, surgeon-focused innovation, today announced that the Catalyst Fracture System received the “Medical Device Engineering Breakthrough” award in the 10th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the most innovative companies, technologies and products in the global digital health and medical technology market.

The Catalyst Fracture System is designed specifically for shoulder fractures and maximizing post-operative function in patients, to help broken shoulders heal better, make surgery more efficient, and deliver more reliable results. Its fracture-specific humeral stem is designed to make it easier for surgeons to manage tuberosities and achieve stable fixation in weak, osteoporotic bone, and it supports reverse and anatomic indications.

The Catalyst Fracture stem features tuberosity-specific cavities designed to position and secure the fractured bone segments for a more native shoulder restoration of the humerus, supporting natural bone healing and avoiding nonanatomic reconstruction. The right- and left-side specific design facilitates more consistent anatomic placement of the tuberosities. In addition, patented tuberosity retention rails1 give multiple ways to secure sutures around the bone fragments, for improved stability during healing.

Designed for efficiency, the simplified implant set, reduced instrumentation, flexible suture techniques, and compatibility with all Catalyst glenoid options allows for consistent and streamlined surgical workflows. For reverse for fracture, the system also offers a single tray designed to further improve procedural efficiency.

“Our design philosophy is supported by publications that demonstrate better patient outcomes. Anatomic tuberosity healing is strongly linked to improved shoulder movement and overall function,2-7 so by focusing on fracture-specific healing, our system supports patients with more predictable results where variability has long been accepted,” said Carl O’Connell, president and CEO at Catalyst. “Thank you to MedTech Breakthrough for this prestigious award.”

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the MedTech Breakthrough Awards program has spent a decade recognizing the companies driving meaningful progress and improving patient care across the global health and medical technology industry - honoring the innovations reshaping how care is delivered worldwide.

This year's program drew a record-breaking number of nominations from leading companies and startups across more than 20 countries, reflecting the growing global impact and momentum of the digital healthcare industry.

“The Catalyst Fracture System addresses a long-standing challenge in treating proximal humerus fractures by prioritizing tuberosity fixation and healing while supporting post-operative stability and surgical efficiency,” said Steve Johansson, managing director at MedTech Breakthrough. “This purpose-built, evidence-driven system is setting a new standard.”
