Takeda UK to ‘donate’ 1000 hours in new volunteering challenge

12 Jul 16

Takeda UK has launched a new volunteering challenge to donate 1000 hours of time to charities and not-for-profit organisations as part of its commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of both the patients their medicines treat and the wider community.

Takeda UK Managing Director, Adam Zaeske, said: “At Takeda, we believe in putting corporate philosophy into practice,  and by launching our 1000 Hour Challenge we can harness all the qualities that our people demonstrate in their day- job -  enthusiasm, determination, willingness to get stuck in -  to support worthwhile  projects and activities both locally and further afield.”

Kicking off the challenge  at the Advenure Learning Foundation (ALF) charity at Green Park, Buckinghamshire,  Takeda employees turned their hands to painting,  planting, and pathbuilding as well as furniture assembly and developing a nature trail for the charity, which offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities to more than a quarter of a million families, youth groups and young people every year.

The main task on the day was to build a 400 metre horseshoe-shaped path around Green Park’s new safari lodges which will be used by groups of schoolchildren and families throughout the year and allow disabled children to access the lodge facilities.

Ambassador and Trustee for ALF, Bill Chapple OBE, was impressed by the Takeda volunteers: “We are set for a fantastic summer in the lodge village as a result of their enthusiasm, efforts and teamwork.  The children’s reaction was more than we could have hoped for and this was down to the Takeda volunteers. I calculated that if we had had to pay for the tools and the labour all provided by Takeda, we would have been around £60,000 out of pocket, so we are very grateful to them all,” he said.
