A team of British Doctors on Everest have been studying levels of oxygen human blood whilst in the extremely thin air above 8000 metres known as the "Death Zone". They have recorded levels well below that seen in critically ill patients, in fact the lowest levels ever recorded. They claim this will give important clues to better treat people with hypoxia, such as those suffering from lung ailments or premature babies.
