Get a life!

25 Feb 09

Get a life!It seems that working long hours is bad for your mental health. A study by the American Journal of Epidemiology found workers that worked more than 55 hours per week had poorer mental skills than those who worked a standard week. Over 2000 UK civil servants took part in the study by taking mental tests, and those with longer working hours did worse in assessing reasoning and vocabulary tests. They also had shorter sleeping hours, reported more symptoms of depression and used more alcohol than those with normal working hours. It seems the problem is cumulative too, so the more hours worked, the worse the results were. The researchers are now trying to determine if the effects are reversible and also if there is any link to dementia. I Think I'll knock off early tonight.
