Similarities and Differences Between Liquid Formulation and Semi-solid Formulation

Both liquid and semi-solid formulations require a series of steps during the preparation process to ensure the quality and stability of the final product. The similarities and differences between them are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  • Overall process: The preparation process of liquid preparations is usually more straightforward, which involves dissolving the drug in a solvent and completing the steps of mixing and stirring. The preparation process of semi-solid preparations requires more steps, such as mixing, heating, cooling, stirring, extrusion, etc., to ensure the final product quality and texture.
  • Ingredient selection: The main ingredients of liquid preparations are drugs and solvents, while the main ingredients of semi-solid preparations include drugs, bases, and excipients.
  • Preparation process: Liquid preparations usually use simple mixing, stirring, and other processes, and the operation is relatively easy to control; while the preparation process of semi-solid preparations is more complicated and requires strict control of parameters such as temperature, time, speed, etc., to ensure the consistency of the final product sex and stability.
  • Quality inspection: Both liquid and semi-solid preparations require quality inspection during the preparation process, but the inspection methods and standards may be different. Common quality inspection methods include appearance inspection, pH value determination, content determination, stability testing, etc.

Liquid and Semi-Solid Formulation Technology

Technology platform Methods
Solubilization technology Our solubilization technology mainly uses solid dispersion solubilization technology (hot melt extrusion, spray drying, hot melt spray, etc.) to improve solubility.
Nanoemulsion technology
  • Based on cholesterol-phospholipid nanoemulsions encapsulate poorly water-soluble drugs in an oil phase to improve bioavailability using very small amounts of organic solvents and surfactants to enhance efficacy.
  • Polymer-based nanotechnology can encapsulate drugs in polymer mechanisms to enhance drug stability.
Microencapsulation technology Our microencapsulation technology encapsulates active ingredients in protective shells, improving suspension stability and bioavailability while controlling the release of active ingredients.
Ion gel technology Our ion gel technology utilizes the network structure formed by gel between solid and liquid to fix drug molecules within it, thereby stabilizing the drug content and release rate of semi-solid preparations.
3D printing technology 3D printing technology is used to precisely control the release rate and dosage of drugs in semi-solid preparations to meet individualized treatment needs.
Micro emulsification technology Our micro emulsification technology uses these technologies of high-pressure homogenization, microwave radiation, ultrasonic radiation, etc.,  to evenly mix the oil phase and water phase to form a stable microemulsion.
High-shear mixing technology Use high-shear mixing equipment to disperse and homogenize the ingredients in the suspension to ensure uniform distribution of active ingredients, achieve the required particle size distribution, and prevent particle settlement
Composite technology Combining microemulsification technology, microencapsulation technology, nanotechnology and other technical means to improve the stability, permeability and release of active ingredients of emulsions and semi-solid preparations.
