Pharma, biotech and medical devices organisations across South East Asia are at risk of losing over three quarters of their best people in the year ahead, according to a new report published by Real.

The research highlights that whilst confidence surrounding job security is higher than at any time in recent years, this confidence has led many to consider looking elsewhere, posing a potential threat to organisations as they look to build long-term sustainable workforces to support future growth plans. This trend is not just restricted to South East Asia either, but mirrors the perceptions of employees across both Europe and the US.

With better salaries, promotion opportunities and new challenges being the key drivers for moving, it perhaps comes as little surprise that 90% of employees are now turning their attention to the growing number of opportunities overseas and would consider relocating. The research highlights that almost two thirds of people (63%) would consider moving to Europe for their next job, with a further 65% willing to consider a move to the Americas, meaning that organisations that fail to create a compelling employer proposition could face a serious skills shortage in the years ahead.

“We are seeing a highly motivated and an increasingly demanding talent pool emerging across South East Asia,“ says Mark O’Halloran, Senior Manager, Real

“Confidence has continued to grow across the region, and this, coupled with the significant growth we have seen across pharma, biotech and medical devices is presenting new job opportunities both locally and internationally. Organisations must now focus on delivering their employer promise and developing an attractive proposition if they want to compete in the heightened international war for talent.”

Featuring insight from hundreds of pharma, biotech and medical devices specialists across South East Asia, Real’s latest report ‘Spotlight on: Recruitment and retention’ examines the impact on both organisations and employees alike, of an increasingly migratory workforce and the associated challenges of international competition, together with global factors such as legislation, the patent cliff and outsourcing.
