Now it seems that every man and his dog is an expert on CVs and the concept of having a free appraisal is often greeted with scepticism. I agree that there are some bad practices in the market ranging from over zealous sales people to emailed CV appraisals that contain more or less the same information for each and every person it is sent to. There was even a misinformed article on Lovemoney.com where a Journalist was accusing recruitment agencies of advertising false jobs purely to sell CV services to job seekers (anyone in the recruitment sector would know that placing a candidate is hugely more lucrative than selling a CV so I’m not sure where that notion came from). I do however think that if you are careful about whom you chose to appraise your CV, you are likely to receive highly informative and credible feedback that will either help you to write your own CV or give you that nudge that encourages you to seek professional assistance.
