Working for Merck Pharmaceuticals UK

Working for Merck Pharmaceuticals UK

Summary

PharmiWeb recently asked Merck to provide some insight into what it was like to work as a sales rep for their company. Rather than just telling us what they thought we wanted to hear, they took the more open approach of asking their team for "real life" comments, and then gave us their rather impressive raw responses, with no additions or changes.

1. OPPORTUNITIES

The small size of the company means that everyone is recognised as a person who plays a vital role in the success of their territory and region, and individual successes, however small, are noted.
Merck is also constantly giving me opportunities to progress within the company.
We have an excellent portfolio, products that save lives and that I genuinely believe in.
Autonomy and recognition for sales successes.
Supportive managers, who listen to ideas and help us make a difference.

2. MAKING THE DIFFERENCE

I think it's worth saying that you really feel like you are making a difference with Merck and you really feel part of the whole team. With Merck, even the top brass know your name and face and they always acknowledge your achievements which,I think, is impressive and of course it makes you feel 'special' and really appreciated! Other reps have been impressed with this and most have said that they wish that they had recognition like it. I was impressed at the belief that my line manager and other colleagues have in me after knowing me for such a short length of time and am very grateful to the opportunities that I have been given in my time at the company.

3. EVERY DREAM

Put simply, Merck is a place where every dream can be achieved if you believe and desire it!
(S.O : LONDON)

4. A SENSE OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PRIDE THAT IS UNRIVALLED

Merck is a peoples company right from the very top, working in other blue chip mutli national companies, the MD's or directorate would simply not know your name, here at merck they do. This filters down into its BM's and RBM's creating a whistle while you work attitude, and a sense of accountability and proudness that is unrivalled.
This commitment and hard work is certainly rewarded in pay reviews, promotions and certainly for high achievers in the bonus scheme. But in my opinion this is NOT why you would be attracted to working for merck.Working for Merck is not a normal corpoorate environment, its a family business with everyday people doing a proffesional job. This encapsulates an innovative, friendly and competetive environment on a daily basis..

5. MERCK IS

1. Large enough to be effective and competitive over the 'big boys' yet small enough to belong and not be a number.
2. Senior employees are always listening and open to suggestions from all regardless of experience and position.
.3. Field based representatives are encouraged to be them-selves in front of customers, resulting in sales professionals not clones.
4. With Merck it is like running your own business, very much like a family business and you are part of the family.

6. THE MERCK EXPERIENCE

The "Merck Experience" to me means, being recognised as an individual and being supported to do the job to the best of my ability.
( F.A. : North West )

7. I ENJOY WORKING FOR MERCK

'I enjoy working for Merck because, due to the fact that they are a medium sized company, they are able to respond quickly to the ever changing environment that us 'reps' find ourselves working within'
( C.M : Cumbria/Lakes)

8. WELL SUPPORTED

I have been with Merck for nearly two years now, during this time I have been well supported in every aspect of the job by my RBM, Field trainer and other colleagues in my team. When I have done something well, I have always been praised and usually rewarded with additional responsibility, which leaves me feeling more motivated and valued.

9. POLICY OF INNOVATION

I think the thing that turns me on about working for Merck is the fact that I know a lot of people personally and they know me. I also think that with our policy of innovation we constantly try to improve things. It is not always obvious to people how much the company do listen and try to change for the better (even if your great idea is the one that just will not work!). The fact that I am still here after 8 years and am not unique must also say something!
(D.G. : Scotland)

10. CAREER PROGRESSION AND DEVELOPMENT

I have been employed with Merck for five years and am very happy. During this time period I feel I have achieved a lot as Merck have encouraged me to be proactive in my own career progression and development and in return I have received genuine interest. Merck have had the confidence to invest time and money in me in order to ensure that I achieve my goals.

11. YOU CAN REALLY INFLUENCE COMPANY POLICY FROM THE GROUND UP

If you stick to the task and consistently deliver you will be noticed and the rewards will come plus unlike 'Big Pharma' if you provide constructive feedback and offer solutions, you can really influence company policy from the ground up.
( P.M. : South Wales )

12. I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED, MOTIVATED

Merck has been a major part of my working life, and a major influence.....and as it is people that makes a company......it is no wonder that in working with the people that I have met in Merck, I have been inspired, motivated and entertained. However, the lasting legacy that I leave with is one of personal growth and life experiences that I believe would have been difficult to replicate elsewhere.
(K.C. : SCOTLAND)

13. WARM WELCOME

I joined Merck from a small company, most reps find this ideal as it gets away from internal politics and number chasing and so can comment on the return journey.
I have been pleasantly suprised by the warm welcome and supportive attitude that has been evident throughout the company to date.
