ISPE Foundation Partners with Gilead Sciences on Internship Program to Diversify the Pharma Industry’s Workforce
The ISPE Foundation and Gilead Sciences, Inc., have established the ISPE Foundation Diversity Internship Program to provide world-class opportunities to groups that are typically underrepresented in the pharmaceutical industry.
The ISPE Foundation Diversity Internship Program is a 12-week summer program that offers graduate students and undergraduate students in their junior or senior year the opportunity to spend their summer working on high-priority, impactful engineering and facilities projects and workstreams in Gilead’s Corporate Operations organization.
“It is a privilege to partner with Gilead on the launch of a program that will be truly life changing to the careers of a diverse pool of talented students and future leaders in the pharmaceutical field,” said Antonio Moreira, PhD, ISPE Foundation Board Chair, Vice Provost, Academic Affairs, University of Maryland Baltimore County. “The ISPE Foundation Diversity Internship Program interns will be immersed in creative and innovative projects, they will be connected with role models and senior leaders at Gilead, and they will be encouraged to let their imagination go to places they had not thought possible. I can't think of a more inspiring and energizing way to start my role as the ISPE Foundation Chair.”
“Gilead is committed to investing in the next generation of engineers and are pleased to partner with the ISPE Foundation on this program,” said Joydeep Ganguly, Senior Vice President of Corporate Operations at Gilead. “We believe that diverse teams are inherently strong teams and look forward to the ways these interns will contribute to our highest priority projects.”
There are currently two summer internship opportunities available at Gilead within the Corporate Engineering and Facilities function:
- Mechanical Engineering with Focus on Energy/Sustainability
- Electrical Engineering with Focus on Process Control/Automation
The individuals in both internship roles will be expected to engage in a wide range of activities, such as creating standard equipment or discipline specifications with input from subject matter experts, developing standard installation details in AutoCAD as part of GEP, supporting various PI projects, e.g. checking on data integrity (non-GMP related work).
