UKCPA Meets Demand For Critical Care Training With New Online

The UK Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA) is meeting the growing demand for the rapid training of critical care pharmacists, particularly those who are providing cover during the COVID-19 pandemic and has released details of their Critical Care Foundation Online Learning Course.

The UKCPA Critical Care Committee have been delivering face-to-face training for several years, but with class-based training suspended during the pandemic they have developed a course which can be delivered virtually.

The two-part course, to be delivered in January 2021, will provide expert-led presentations and interactive discussion of case studies to consolidate learning. Delegates will be given home study resources, will be assessed at the end of the course, and provided with a certificate of completion.

The course will cover the basic principles of shock, fluid balance, analgesia and sedation in the critically ill patient. The content will also cover strategies to deal with medication and device shortages in times of surge, using tools to review patients, and the assessment of renal function.

The course will be delivered by senior and consultant critical care pharmacists. The online course is also vital for pharmacists who are just starting out on critical care wards, providing cover during weekends or sickness or need a refresher on the basics of critical care pharmacy practice.
