[2021] Infertility Drugs Market Booming With Score Past US$ 6.2 Billion by 2027, Says Coherent Market Insights. Inc

Infertility affects both men and women, making it a global health problem. Female infertility is caused by advanced age, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), obesity, and multiple miscarriages, while male infertility is caused by erectile dysfunction, low sperm count, irregular sperms, and other factors. Infertility drugs are expected to be in high demand as the rate of infertility rises. Infertility affects one out of every four couples in developing economies, according to a World Health Organization (WHO) study from 2012. Many scientists are trying to find an effective cure for infertility. For example, researchers at Ben-Gurion University (BGU) in Israel were working on a new single-dose infertility treatment based on a new compound in 2018. The new therapy, developed by BGU researchers, increases telomerase expression and re-elongates telomeres, protecting cells from damage.

The global infertility drugs market was worth US$ 3.8 billion in 2019, and it is projected to develop at a CAGR of 5.8% over the forecast period (2020-2027).

Because of the increasing research and development studies for more successful treatments to achieve pregnancy and live births, the infertility drugs market is expected to expand significantly. For example, a team of researchers from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) discovered in 2014 that women taking Letrozole have higher rates of ovulation and live births than women taking Clomiphene. Furthermore, women who received Letrozole had a live birth 27.5 percent of the time, while women who received clomiphene only had a live birth 19.1 percent of the time. The Letrozole group had a higher average ovulation rate, with ovulation occurring 61.7 percent of the time, while the clomiphene group ovulated 48.3 percent of the time.

Furthermore, an increase in the prevalence of lifestyle disorders such as obesity, stress, smoking, diabetes, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and others, leads to infertility and this is again expanding the market for infertility drugs. In China, smoking was linked to a 15.3 percent decrease in sperm density, 17.5 percent decrease in total sperm counts, and 16.6 percent decrease in total motile sperm, according to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology and Information (NCBI) 2015 report.

The side effects of infertility drugs, such upper respiratory tract infection, mood swings, pelvic discomfort, headache, abnormal bleeding or spotting, Ovarian Hyper-Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS), sinus congestion, breast tenderness,  injection site pain,  dizziness are limiting the market growth of infertility drugs (OHSS). According to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information in 2016, up to 10% to 20% of women who take infertility drugs will develop a mild type of OHSS that will normally resolve on its own. In the United States, severe cases of OHSS affect less than 1% of patients.
