Council and NHS find a new approach to improving mental health in Cornwall

Cornwall UK, July 7th.  Evidence suggests the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted mental health and wellbeing, which will have both a short-term and long-lasting effect on mental health.

"With the ongoing pressures of the pandemic in the workforce, Public Health, Cornwall Council and NHS Kernow have jointly commissioned an exciting new mental health training package for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are really pleased to announce that we are working with the Sound Doctor and TeamDoctor to develop three modules covering psychological first aid, mental health awareness and trauma informed training. It is hoped the training will be available later this year to help individuals with their own wellbeing but also to give someone the confidence and skills to support someone else. In addition, it has been designed to create a more trauma informed and supportive environment in the workplace."

Dr Richard Sharpe, Public Health, Cornwall Council

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a clear impact on the workforce across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, which includes those working on the front line from the NHS, Local Authority, care homes, home care providers and the voluntary sector. Other workplaces impacted by the pandemic includes those who have experienced closures, having staff on furlough, working from home and returning to the workplace after a period of furlough for example. The training package developed and hosted by TeamDoctor and The Sound Doctor has been designed to be freely available to all workplaces including the public, private and voluntary sectors. We are excited to be working with Sound Doctor and TeamDoctor on this joint venture for the next five years
