Liva Healthcare wins Healthy Hub eHealth competition and gets access to innovative partnerships with German sick funds

Liva Healthcare wins Healthy Hub eHealth competition and gets access to innovative partnerships with German sick funds

On Tuesday, April 1st, 2021, Healthy Hub called in for innovators in the German eHealth sector. More than 100 digital health companies applied for the third Healthy Hub competition, and only 15 eHealth providers made it through to the live pitches.

“We invite the most interesting applicants to live pitches. Following a personal presentation of the ideas, these are discussed in detail here with proven experts from the participating sick funds. We select particularly promising innovations from the live pitches and give selected innovators the chance to then prove themselves under real conditions,” says Dr. Elmar Waldschmitt, Managing Director of the Healthy Hub.

Based on the 15 pitches, experts from Healthy Hub and the participating sick funds, BIG direkt gesund, IKK Südwest, mhplus Krankenkasse sowie and SBK Siemens Betriebskrankenkasse have now announced four final winners. The final winners are Fimo HealthMentalisMOIO GmbH, and Liva Healthcare

André Sode, CEO of Liva Healthcare, comments: “Following our expansion to the German market back in June, this achievement marks an important milestone for us. Our personalised digital health coaching programmes have been proven to drive substantial clinical outcomes within obesity, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in eight countries across Europe. We are now more than ready to help combat Germany’s rise in type 2 diabetes and obesity,” Sode says.

Florian Brandt, Health Innovation Manager at IKK Südwest, says: “In the end, the winners of the competition have an innovation partnership with at least one of the four sick funds. This creates a valuable opportunity for start-ups to tap into the market, as four health insurance companies with over 2.7 million insured persons can be reached at the same time,” Brandt comments.

This successful step is achieved in a short time in Germany under the leadership of Dr. Philipp M. Schäfer. Going forward, Philipp will be supporting further steps of internationalisation and the growth process in the function of a senior advisor to the management in Copenhagen.

“We at Liva are proud of the success we have achieved together, which now also enables us in Germany to continue the previous successful history and to be able to positively influence the lives and health of numerous people with this great product here as well. This is a testament to the great team effort and collaboration between the Copenhagen and Berlin teams,” Dr. Philipp M. Schäfer concludes.

To strengthen the momentum and strategy of market expansion in Germany, Jonas Hjortshøj, CCO of Liva Healthcare, has relocated to Germany with his family to head up the newly established office in Berlin and take over the role as Managing Director (Geschäftsführer). Jonas Hjortshøj remains the CCO of the company.

“Germany has one of the highest prevalence of diabetes in Europe. There’s a clear need in the market for innovative and scalable solutions within prevention and management of chronic diseases that is currently not being met, and we are delighted to be working closely together with these sick funds to improve health, wellbeing and quality of life for many people in Germany,” says Jonas Hjortshøj.
