Fertility Network responds to HFEA State of the Fertility Sector report

Dr Catherine Hill, interim chief executive of Fertility Network UK, said: “We know that the results of today’s HFEA report on the ‘State of the Fertility Sector’ will be of huge reassurance to fertility patients across the country who deserve the highest level of safety and care when seeking treatment.

“We would like to particularly urge clinics to make a concerted effort to reduce the number of patients affected by OHSS, as we see that the number of women affected by the condition has not dropped demonstrably in recent years.”

Francesca Hockham, a fertility patient who experienced OHSS, said: “Having experienced Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) during my own fertility treatment journey, I understand the physical and emotional toll it can take. OHSS not only ended my dream of a fresh embryo transfer but also added unexpected hardships to an already challenging process.

“It's crucial that regulators and clinics prioritize the well-being of women like me who undergo fertility treatments. We deserve every effort to prevent OHSS through strict monitoring and compassionate care. Let's work together to ensure fewer women face the pain and setbacks that come with OHSS, making the path to parenthood smoother and less daunting.”
