Bioscience Association Manitoba to Host Annual Awards Dinner to Celebrate Achievements in Manitoba’s Bioscience Industry

WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bioscience Association Manitoba (BAM) is pleased to host its Annual Awards Dinner, ‘Bridging Innovative Opportunities in Manitoba’ on March 7, 2023, to celebrate the accomplishments and future potential of the bioscience industry in Manitoba. This event recognizes the contributions of individuals and companies that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship in their field.



This year’s four award winners include:

Most Outstanding Bioscience Student of the Year – Jasmyne Storm, a second-year Bioscience MSc student at The University of Winnipeg, researches milk nanovesicles' therapeutic potential to improve neonatal health under Dr. Sanoji Wijenayake's mentorship. She aims to enhance infant formula through milk nanovesicles, potentially improving health outcomes of children exposed to maternal stress. Jasmyne has earned various awards during her MSc tenure and aspires to pursue an MD-PhD, dedicating her career to advancing MEV-based therapeutic strategies in cancer research.

Outstanding Leadership in Bioscience of the Year – Dr. James House, is a Professor at the University of Manitoba, who specializes in sustainable protein research. With a Ph.D. in amino acid nutrition, his work focuses on sulphur amino acid metabolism, sustainable egg production, and dietary protein quality. He has trained over 40 graduate students and received many awards for his contributions to nutritional sciences. Dr. House leads the Manitoba Protein Research Strategy.

Emerging Bioscience Company of the Year – Win-Shield Medical Devices Inc., a Winnipeg-based company that specializes in designing, manufacturing, and licensing innovative medical devices. Since their inception in 2020, Win-Shield Medical Devices Inc., have achieved remarkable milestones, including delivering 4 million face and head shields during the height of the pandemic. With the development of their suite of 15 products coming to the market in 2024, Win-Shield Medical Devices is set to redefine safety standards worldwide.

Company of the Year – Kane Biotech specializes in developing technologies and products to prevent and disperse bacterial biofilms. Kane Biotech was formed to translate these discoveries into innovative solutions for human and animal health, as well as industrial applications. For over 20 years, Kane Biotech’s R&D division has been developing new technologies leading to 80 patents and patents pending in biotechnology, primarily on biofilm.
