International recycling leader TerraCycle®, launches ClinicCycle cliniccycle.co.uk, a recycling solution to help all businesses in the medical industry, from dental practices, to GPs, pharmacies, hospitals and more, become more sustainable and reduce the amount of waste which is sent to landfill and incineration, by providing a convenient and simple to implement solution to recycle many of the hard-to-recycle non-hazardous types of waste they generate large volumes of, from disposable PPE, to oral care waste and plastic packaging amongst others.
The medical industry produces a substantial amount of hard to recycle non-hazardous waste that mostly ends up in landfills. According to NHS numbers, it is estimated that 156,000 tonnes of clinical waste is generated annually by the NHS alone, which is either sent to high temperature incineration or for alternative treatment, which is equivalent to over 400 loaded jumbo jets of waste. TerraCycle is fighting against this by offering a simple solution to help the medical industry become more environmentally friendly and reduce the amount of this waste ending up in landfill or incineration. This is how ClinicCycle was developed and launched.
ClinicCycle offers a wide variety of different Zero Waste Boxes to suit every practice and to collect different waste streams from disposable PPE to disposable gloves, plastic packaging, oral care waste, centrifuge tubes and rigid lab plastics, and more. Each box is available in 3 different sizes, ranging from small, to medium and large. You can find more information and the wide range of boxes available at the following link cliniccycle.co.uk.
Julien Tremblin, General Manager, TerraCycle Europe, commented: “The amount of waste generated by the medical industry is truly substantial. In light of this, we are thrilled to launch today our ClinicCycle solution in the UK. When developing ClinicCycle we wanted to take into account all different types of businesses that work in the medical industry - from dentist practices, to laboratories, hospitals, GPs and more. We want to provide a solution to suit all needs and waste streams. We encourage all medical practices and businesses to explore our offerings and to help make the event industry more sustainable.”
Michelle Drew, a dentist at Drake Dental Practice in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, gives an insight into what their dental practice as well as others in the medical industry can now benefit from following the launch of ClinicCycle: “At Drake Dental Practice, we currently use the oral care waste and packaging Zero Waste Box and have placed it in our reception for all to use. It has been a real success in our practice, helping both our employees and patients alike to help keep our waste out of landfill and be responsibly recycled and repurposed. This aligns perfectly with our practice’s values, and we would like to continue to drive a positive change within our industry.”
How ClinicCycle works:
- Order – Medical practices can order ClinicCycle Zero Waste Boxes which are shipped directly to their location of choice.
- Collect – ClinicCycle Zero Waste Boxes are placed in designated high-traffic areas at these practices to easily collect the various categories of items and packaging.
- Ship – Once full, the practice sends the Zero Waste Box(es) back to TerraCycle using the pre-affixed UPS shipping label.
- Recycle – When TerraCycle receives your Zero Waste Box, the waste is sorted, cleaned and processed into raw materials. Materials such as plastics, metals and rubber are processed and remoulded to make new recycled products like metal sheeting, flooring tiles, shipping pallets, and outdoor furniture.
